Everything you need for a lifestyle newborn session with La Vie Photography.

The beautiful thing about lifestyle newborn sessions is that they are simple. The goal is to capture you and your baby just the way you are. You want to slow down and enjoy the moment. Take in everything around you and this brand new life you hold in your arms. When it comes to sessions with me, there are only a couple things you need:

First thing you need, a window.

I am a natural light photographer so I do require at least one window. When I first arrive, I will look around your house for the room with the best natural light - sometimes this can be a few different rooms but other times, it can be just one room. But that’s okay, I can do the whole session in that one room, in front of that one window. It’s that simple.

Something for your baby to wear.

What your baby wears is completely up to you! However, I do suggest keeping it plain and simple. This way the outfit doesn’t take away from the details of your baby. My favourite choice is a plain white onesie or sleeper. This is classic and simple. From there, you can add a hat or bow for a little pop of colour. By keeping what the baby wears neutral, it makes it easier to coordinate with all other family members. You don’t need to stress about anyone clashing. I always suggest having a couple onesies ready just in case there is some spit up or a poop explosion!

Always good to have a couple swaddle blankets near by.

Swaddle blankets are good to have for a couple of reasons. The most obvious being to swaddle your baby. Having your baby swaddled can help them feel comfortable and relaxed and it also provide variety for some photos. If you have other children who are still pretty young, swaddling the baby for them to hold is much easier. Otherwise, swaddle blankets are nice to lay the baby on for individual photos or to wrap them in if they get cold. I always suggest parents have a couple on hand.

The most important thing - you and your baby!

In terms of particular items, that’s really it. But in the end, all that matters is you and your baby (and other family members of course)! For most of the session, your baby will be in your arms and held close. Your session is focused on capturing the beautiful bond you have created with your baby. It’s all abut the little details and your connection.
