What you should bring to a branding photoshoot

These days in order to have a strong online presence for your business - you need to have photographs that connect to your purpose. This is why branding photography is so important. It is a fun way to create content to help share your mission. It gives a visual connection to the message you are trying to reach clients with. Your branding photos should highlight you but also creatively showcase your personality and little details of your business. With that in mind, there are some thing you need to bring with you to your branding photoshoot. Here are my top items:

Different Articles of Clothing.

When it come to what you should wear to your branding session, it’s important that it is comfortable and true to you. However, it is nice to have a couple different looks for the session. Not everyone has the option to change on location, so I always suggest that my clients layer clothing. This means a sweater, jacket, scarf, different necklaces, and even a change of shoes. This will help give you different looks within the one session, allowing you to make the most of your photos! If you do have the ability to change, you should plan 1-3 different outfits. It’s best if your looks are all different. For example, one more business formal look vs a comfortable casual one. Each looks should also connect with the purpose of your business. If you are a yoga teacher, you probably don’t need to bring a suit.

Branded Items.

Depending on your business, you may have some branded items such as key chains, folders, stickers or pamphlets. These are always good to bring with you to your session. They can be useful props for flat lays and detailed shots. It helps put your brand at the fore front without focusing directly on you. By using branded items, it helps make your logo and overall brand more recognizable and helps connect your face to the brand - making both interchangeable.

Work Related Props.

When it comes to branding photoshoots, there are some standard props to bring. These items are related directly to your business; items that you use on a daily basis. For most entrepreneurs, items such as computers, notebooks, mobile phone and etc are important to have with you. However, depending on your business you might have other work related items. For example, if you’re a fitness instructor, this may include things such as weights, a yoga mat, skipping rope and etc. Then of course, if your company sell specific products whether that is clothing, food, personal care items - whatever! Bringing some examples with you to use and display is essential.

Props that Speak to Your Personality.

At the end of the day, you want your branding photos to represent your authentic self! That’s why I always suggest bringing some props that speak to your personality. This can include champagne, balloons, or some fun snacks! Whatever you want - we can make it work! You want a variety of photos, not all of them should be perfect and professional. Have a little fun! Create some content that is personal and relatable to your clients!
