Tips on what to wear to your lifestyle branding session | Durham Region Photographer
Booking a branding photoshoot is the easy step - it’s planning on what to wear that can be stressful. It’s not often that you have a photoshoot that is solely focused on you so the pressure to look perfect can creep in. Don’t let it! Stay true to yourself and your photos will end up being perfect - for you. Here are a few tips to help you achieve that:
The most important tip - be comfortable.
This is something I say to all my clients because I think it’s very important. Being in front of the camera is uncomfortable enough for most people - so don’t make it harder by being in uncomfortable clothes. Wear something that is comfortable for you - if jeans and a t-shirt is comfortable, wear that. If you prefer heels and a dress - go for it. There is no standard definition of comfort. Just be sure to wear clothes that make you feel comfortable.
Prepare a couple different outfit choices.
Choose a couple looks that make sense for your business. Depending on the nature of your business, I often suggest one casual outfit and one more ‘fancy’ outfit - whatever fancy means to you. Either way, both should still follow the first rule and be comfortable. You can also create different looks by including different layers such as sweaters or blazers. For example, if you are a yoga instructor, I would suggest photos in your typical yoga outfit but also one of you in everyday clothes - such as jeans and a nice sweater. This shows your followers a little bit about you and a little bit about your business.
Incorporate brand colours with accessories.
It’s important to include your brand colours but they should take over the session. I find the best way to incorporate brand colours is with accessories. I always suggest bringing a variety of accessories and props. These items help add that little pop of colour you need. Things like necklaces, scarves, rings, purses, coffee mugs, notepads, shoes and etc. There are lots of items you could choose from! They don’t all need to include your brand colours but some definitely should. It will help keep your photos consistent and cohesive.
Use your clothing to show off your personality.
This is the most important tip I have - wear something that shows off who you are! Maybe it’s a shirt with your favourite band or bright bold colours - whatever it is, it should represent you! By showing off who you are, it helps connect with your clients and followers. It also adds authenticity to your photos. You need to remember that branding photos are not about creating glamorous photos of yourself. They are about creating content that shows people who you are and why they should support your business! So show them!
