Why you should book your family photos in advance.

It might seem weird to you to book your family photos in advance. A couple weeks, might sound reasonable, but the year before, really?

Yes.

Many of my clients book their sessions months in advance. I connect with my past clients and mailing list early into the new year to make sure they can book as soon as possible. Here are some of the benefits of booking your family photoshoot in advance:

You don’t want to miss out booking with your favourite photographer.

We have all been there. We have good intentions to book family photos each year and capture our family as they grow. But life gets busy and we end up waiting until the last minute. Then guess what? All the dates are booked up. This leaves you scrambling to find a photographer that has some openings.

Sometimes you find can find one but it often ends with you compromising on style. You can end up with someone you doesn’t fit what you were looking for.

For example, you might be looking for a lifestyle photographer with all inclusive packages but instead end up with a traditional photographer who does in person sales. Book in advance so you don’t miss out on the photographer you want.

Booking your photoshoot early guarantees you get the date you want.

If you have your family’s photos taken every year, it’s always nice to change up the season’s in which they are taken. One year, you might want those bold fall colours. Another, that golden summer sunset might provide the perfect setting.

If you have a vision for the time of year you want your photos to be taken it’s best to book ahead of time. This way you can choose a date that not only works for your family but is in the month in which gives you the best chance to have the backdrop you want. Nothing is more disappointing than planning for fall family photos only to learn that your favourite photographer is all booked up in October.

Once you book your photoshoot, you’ll have lots of time to prepare.

If you are anything like me, the idea of prepping for your photoshoot a few weeks in advance makes you very happy. You might even start a couple months ahead of time. If you have booked your photos for the summer, you know your family needs summer outfits.

This gives you plenty of time to sift through their clothes and find outfits that actually fit them. Not to mention, maybe treating yourself to something new! You can pick up any items you might need and don’t have in the right size. This will help elevate lots of stress the day of the photoshoot.
