Thank you for your interest in a newborn photography session with La Vie Photography!
Lifestyle photography is so unique, with a goal of capturing candid photos of your family in every day moments. As the photographer, I aim to capture the genuine love within your family, so that when you look back on your photos, you're transported back to these very special moments in your life. My technique with newborns is referred to as baby-led posing. This just means I will lightly pose the baby (swaddle, place in your arms, etc.) but if they move to a position that's more comfortable for them - that is how I will capture them. Read more about why I love lifestyle newborn sessions so much.
Location
Newborn sessions can take place outside, but I highly recommend your home. In-home sessions provide a comfortable setting and a personal touch - all we need is a window with some natural light! Check out my blog: Everything you need for an in-home newborn photoshoot for more info.
Time
If we are photographing indoors, late morning to early afternoon is ideal (between 10:00AM -1:00PM) for the best natural light.
Length
Don't worry - I work efficiently! My sessions typically last between 1-2 hours, capturing a large and diverse collection of photos. Keep in mind that your baby is in charge, so I will adapt and work around what they need.
Day of Session
I will arrive about 10 minutes early. This is just so I can scout the best list area for family and sibling photos. I often use the couch, master bedroom, and/or nursery for photos. Please don't feel like you have to clean the house before I arrive. I get what it's like having a newborn. We can easily tidy up an area that we want to use for photos while I'm there.
If possible, I recommend feeding your baby about 15 minutes prior to my arrival. Newborn sessions can take some time. That’s okay. I have no expectations of them, they will guide the session.
What to Wear
Your outfits should be comfortable and reflect who you are. I always recommend wearing clothing that compliment one another without matching. Neutral colours often work best. As for your baby, I suggest a white/neutral onesie with no graphics or words. I recommend having a couple of your favourite swaddle blankets on hand as well. Depending on your personal preference, you can have some hats and/or bows as well.
If you need more info, I have a blog called: What to wear for an in-home newborn photoshoot.
Props
They are not required, but if you have something in mind I’d be happy to work with you!
